Mosaic Cultural Hiking
Cultural hiking is our traditional event, allowing our students to appreciate the picturesque scenery of Hong Kong.
This year, we decided to enlist the expertise of the Island Studies Network to serve as our tour guide and familiarize the students with Lamma Island. They provided comprehensive guidance on the various sites on Lamma Island and its attractions, including historical landmarks, cultural hotspots, and natural wonders.
Through this event, the students gained a deeper understanding of the beauty and diversity of the island.
High Table Dinner
We were delighted to have Professor Anthony Bing Leung Cheung, GBS, JP, as our honored keynote speaker in our HTD this year. In his keynote speech, Prof. Cheung provided a comprehensive and insightful analysis of the current geopolitical situation affecting Hong Kong, as well as the challenges and opportunities for the city.
The students were highly engaged during the event and actively participated in a stimulating and thought-provoking dialogue with Prof. Cheung. It was a highly successful and memorable event that brought together scholars and students to discuss the critical issues facing Hong Kong and its future.
We also provided an opportunity for the talented residents of Mosaic to showcase their musical skills. The residents delivered a wonderful music performance during the formal dining, adding elegance and charm to the event.
Mosaic Cultural Talk Series
Lee Yick Hoi Lun Mosaic College arranged two cultural talks during the first semester of the academic year 2023/2024. We had the privilege of inviting Mr. Ivan Siu-lun Chu, Co-founder of the Hong Kong Sustainable Development Research Institute (SDRI), to share his insights about sustainable development (Topic: SDG as Global Language).
Additionally, we invited Mr. Peter Yuen, Head of Hong Kong’s Office Jump Trading Group, to discuss the political and economic turmoil in Hong Kong (Topic: Still a global hub? Hong Kong and its talents in the eye of global firms). These talks were designed to allow the students to learn outside their major lectures and gain a broader understanding of the world around them.
Moreover, we are thrilled to announce that more talks will be coming up in the following semester.
Christmas Caroling and Feast
During the Christmas season, we had a wonderful celebration by singing carols with children’s performers. The Lee Yick Hoi Lun Mosaic College Master, Dr. Chan, invited his church choir and led the management team to present Christmas gifts to the residents.
We went door to door and sang Christmas carols with the residents. The residents were thrilled to hear us. It was heartwarming to see their faces lighting up with happiness as we shared the love of the season with them.
After the caroling, we had a Christmas feast with the residents. We had prepared a variety of delicious dishes. Everyone enjoyed the feast, giving the residents a warm and festive feeling. It was a beautiful celebration that brought joy and happiness to the residents.
Pastel Nagomi Art Class 日本和諧粉彩畫 新年大利是
For the New Year Festival, we organized a Pastel Class taught by Ms Cynthia Chan to blend Japanese culture with art. The purpose of this class was to provide students with an opportunity to learn more about different cultures and experience the festival’s joy. The students were taught how to create their artwork using pastels during the class. The DIY workshop was a hit with the students, who were highly interested in the drawing process.
Ms Cynthia Chan guided them in the creation of their unique artwork. After the class, the students were thrilled to have their artwork and were eager to show it to their friends and family. Overall, the Pastel Class was a great success, and we hope to offer more classes like this in the future.
Drama Appreciation and Sharing
During February to April, we appreciated three dramas including 《半桶水The Bucket》, 《醫.道 The Doctor》and 《元宵Twelfth Night》. All students enjoyed the dramas very much and gave wonderful feedback.
To gain in-depth understanding of the drama, we also invited the director of 《半桶水The Bucket》, Mr. Kingston Lo, to give a sharing session with the student.
Korean Student Visit
The main theme of Lee Yick Hoi Lun Mosaic College is to promote cultural diversity. Korean students from various universities visited our college for a cultural exchange. Our Resident Student Leader took this opportunity to introduce our Residential College and the unique Hong Kong culture to the Korean students. We then took the students on a tour of our RC to help them better understand our culture.
During the visit, our students and the Korean students had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations and share their cultures, experiences, and ideas. We believe such programs are essential in promoting cross-cultural understanding and bridging the gap between communities.
